The Finca and the Grounds

Finca la Maroma is a 300-yr-old farmhouse, with many parts retaining their traditional Andalucian style. Perched on top of a hill with an elevation of 420m there are spectacular views in all directions, especially towards La Maroma, the highest peak in the Sierra Tejeda-Almijara mountain range. Thanks to the absence of fences there is a great feeling of space at Finca La Maroma and one can roam freely for miles through the surrounding olive and almond groves. Our large south facing terrace is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the afternoon sun, while our north facing terraces offer a cool retreat from the summer heat.

Our extensive land is crossed by numerous paths, leading down to a small stream and old stone terracing, with lemon, pomegranate, orange, and carob trees. We have created a few private spots on the estate where the views are particularly beautiful so that you can fully enjoy the peace and tranquility of Finca La Maroma. In our courtyard is an old wine press, still used today for making the local “vino terreno” from grapevines that grow on our hillside, and at the far end of the house is an ancient threshing circle, offering a reminder of the historical roots of the finca.

We think our guesthouse is the ideal location for a quiet and truly relaxing holiday. It is a perfect and unique gay holiday retreat from the stresses of everyday life. We think you will agree.

Pool & Jacuzzi

At Finca la Maroma, we think that one of the great pleasures of our gay guesthouse is to spend a summer afternoon soaking up the sun by our solar-heated, sparkling clean, clothing-optional swimming pool. This year we have extended the original pool area with a stunningly landscaped hardwood infinity terrace, and plenty of brand new sun loungers, parasols, and lots of space to relax or chat with other gay guests. Our pool is always open and lit by underwater lighting, making it ideal for a late swim on a warm evening.

Particularly popular with guests at Finca la Maroma is our hilltop jacuzzi. Nothing can be more relaxing than admiring a spectacular sunset over the mountains from the vantage point of our new jacuzzi, in the natural shade of an ancient grapevine.

About Us

In October 2010 Mark and Tom left their busy professional lives in central London to take over and transform Finca la Maroma. We now live in this spectacular location with our rescue dog Homer and aim to make your stay with us unforgettably comfortable and relaxing.

Finca la Maroma is located 5kms from the small village of Sedella, one of the beautiful pueblos blancos in rural Andalucia that can trace their heritage back to moorish times. This relatively undiscovered area, known as the Axarquia, is only 50 minutes from Malaga and yet remains one of Spain's best kept secrets. More recently, this quiet region of Andalucia has become popular with gay travellers, tired of the traditional gay resorts like Gran Canaria and Sitges, who appreciate the serenity and relaxation, unrivalled beauty, wonderful local cuisine, and the bohemian vibe offered by the area.

Because we are located in one the most southern parts of the Spanish Mediterranean coast, our gay hotel enjoys over 320 days of sunshine a year, and our season lasts much longer than many other European gay resorts. That means you can enjoy nine months of guaranteed summer weather at Finca La Maroma.
Our self-catering apartments are pristine and spacious, and offer modern comfort and luxury in a traditional Mediterranean style. Located in the main house, the studios all give onto private and shared terraces and gardens, so you can enjoy your morning coffee admiring the spectacular views surrounded by lavender, jasmine, rosemary, and thyme. Need to connect with the outside world? Finca la Maroma offers super fast free wi-fi broadband, accessible from your apartment or terrace.

For gay travellers on the go, Finca la Maroma offers unlimited options. We are located on the edge of the Sierra Tejeda-Almijara national park, making the area a hikers paradise. We can help you plan a custom itinerary of nearby walks, from easy to challenging, but all stunning and unique. For the more active, we have mountain bikes available for a dizzying ride on the mountain 'caminos'. If culture is your thing, you will find Finca la Maroma a perfect base for discovering not only the more popular destinations like Granada, Cordoba, Antequera, and the glorious white villages of Frigiliana, Canillas de Albaida and Sedella, but also some the lesser known historical gems and sights nearby.

If you are heading for the coast for the day, we can advise you on the numerous beaches nearby, many of which are gay or naturist and less than 30 minutes away. One the more popular options with our guests is simply doing nothing, relaxing by our pool, enjoying a chilled glass of vino rosado from our well stocked honesty bar, or exploring the many secluded and private spots on the estate.
